Our design revolves around the concept of a Vending Machine that functions as a self- sufficient system. This vision heavily relies on using food fermentation for bioenergy production and the bioelectrochemical process of Microbial Fuel Cells (MFCs). We investigated how different dominant crops in Japan like rice, soybeans, etc are fermented so that we can come up with a proposal for a self-sustained Vending Machine that can produce natto, amazake, sake, and other fermented food and beverages.
We came up with ideas about all the shapes, forms, and functions this machine will overtake as time goes on. Looking in the far future, in a world that could be naturally and technologically intertwined, we imagine the Vending Machine as an entirely independent and self-sufficient organism that will serve as mini factories and an energy source for the human andthe non-human living beings.
